After Dark, The Game is a board game mimicking the Game of LIFE as part of After Dark GR, a campaign that teamed up local artists and businesses within the city of Grand Rapids. Originally planned to be a multi-neighborhood event spread over several months in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic threw a wrench in that and the team behind After Dark had to swiftly switch gears to activate these neighborhoods while still maintaining social distancing. Over 35 murals by local artists were painted throughout the city’s neighborhoods and a board game was created so people could play in the safety of their own home. I was hired to illustrate and design the graphics for the entire board game. Deliverables included 10 career cards with portraits of 20 outstanding Grand Rapidians, house cards, the box packaging, game money, game instructions, and of course the game board itself, which featured local sponsors. The spaces on the board were all potential activities you could participate in the city at local businesses, schools, parks, etc.
